2. What we collect, and why
We only collect what we need to reply to you and to do the work you ask for. Giving us information is voluntary, but without a name and an email address we cannot reply.
- Enquiries and partnership requests. Your name, work email, organisation, the kind of enquiry and your message. We use them to reply and to manage the conversation that follows.
- Investor brief requests. Your name, email, organisation, how you invest and your message. We use them to send a mutual non-disclosure agreement and, once it is signed, the investor brief.
- Careers interest. Your name, email, the role, a portfolio or LinkedIn link and a short note. We use them only for recruitment.
- The Pre-Mortem Seat. What you type stays in your browser. If you choose "Talk it through with us", your answers are kept in your browser so they can fill in the contact form for you. We receive them only if you send that form.
- Emails to our desks. Whatever you choose to include, used to reply to you.
- Technical information. Our hosting provider records basic technical data, such as IP addresses and browser types, to keep the website secure and working.
3. Our reasons in law
We process personal information because you have consented, because you asked us to take steps before entering into an agreement, or because we have a legitimate interest in keeping this website secure. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the website and reply to you, under agreements that require them to protect it:
- Vercel Inc., which hosts this website.
- Google LLC, whose Workspace tools store the enquiries sent through our forms.
- Our email provider, which delivers and stores our email.
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, when we need their advice.
5. Information stored outside South Africa
Some of our service providers store information outside South Africa. We only use providers that are bound by data protection terms giving a level of protection comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of the Act requires.
6. Newsletters and marketing
We only send ONward, our newsletter, and other marketing emails if you ask for them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we stop as soon as you use it.
7. How long we keep it
- Enquiries and investor requests: up to 24 months after our last contact, unless a contract or the law needs us to keep them longer.
- Careers interest: up to 12 months, or less if you ask us to delete it.
- Information we no longer need is deleted or anonymised.
8. How we protect it
Access to personal information is limited to the people who need it. Our accounts use strong passwords and two-step sign-in where it is available. If a breach ever puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA requires.
9. Your rights
You may ask us, free of charge, to:
- confirm whether we hold personal information about you, and give you a copy;
- correct or delete it;
- stop using it, or object to how we use it;
- withdraw your consent.

10. Cookies and storage
This website does not use advertising cookies. It keeps a few small items in your browser's storage:
- Your cookie choice. Essential: it remembers what you chose, so we do not ask again.
- Your pre-mortem. Only if you choose "Talk it through with us". It fills in the contact form for you and stays on your device.
- Analytics. Only if you choose "Accept analytics". Privacy-friendly analytics count page visits so we can see which pages help people. They do not identify you or follow you to other websites.
11. Children
This website is meant for adults in organisations. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
12. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when how we handle personal information changes, and change the date at the top. Our PAIA manual is available on request.
